We have gained recognition as one of leading small nurseries in the country and our range of herbaceous perennials and ornamental grasses is, we believe, as choice as you will find. We are also proud of the fact that virtually all our plants are home grown: no mean feat in this age of commercialisation.
We grow all our own grapes, and make the wines on site in our purpose built winery. Brand new processing equipment, and contemporary techniques in vineyard and winery, are used to produce quality English wines.
Our garden is two acres in size, planted informally on clay at the foot of the South Downs. There are young and mature trees, shrubberies, roses and herbaceous plantings and of course, the snowdrops and the hellebores. The garden is owner maintained and is designed for year round interest. There are plenty of seats so the views can be enjoyed at leisure.
Nigel Philips trained at Merrist Wood College and has been practising garden design since 1981. In that time he has run his own design and build company and carried out a wide variety of design commissions, including exhibition gardens at local and national shows and winning an award at the Chelsea Flower Show.
Lewes Town and Country Bed and Breakfast is an independent group of about 35 B&Bs and self-catering establishments providing comfortable, good quality and reasonably priced accommodation in the historic town of Lewes and surrounding villages.
Based in the historic county town of Lewes, I can arrange either a 2-day tour (overnight hotel accommodation in Lewes) or a single day of garden visiting. The choice of gardens visited will depend on the season and your specific interests. Unlike a large tour group, you will have the benefit of your own personal driver and guide.
